Versöhnung. 1912.
Woodcut.
Hoberg/Jansen 25 1 (of 2). Lankheit 837 1 (of 2). Signed and numbered, as well as monogrammed in the printing block. From an edition of presumably 15 copies. On delicate Japon. 20 x 26 cm (7.8 x 10.2 in). Sheet: 27,5 x 40,3 cm (10,8 x 15,8 in).
In a letter to Herwarth Walden dated August 23, 1912, Franz Marc describes the woodcut as an attempt to illustrate the poem "Versöhnung" (Reconciliation) by Else Lasker-Schüler. The artist also promised that he would send Walden the woodblock for his magazine "Der Sturm" as well as some prints. The woodcut actually adorned the title page of the weekly magazine in September 1912, Vol. III, No. 125/26 [AW].

• Expressive woodcut from Marc's very small graphic oeuvre.
• In September 1912, the woodcut adorned the title page of the weekly magazine "Der Sturm".
• Together with Wassily Kandinsky, Marc was a co-founder of the artists' group "Der Blaue Reiter"
.
