• Challenging sensual perception.
• This work by Josef Albers is based on his finding that color is absolute value but that it is always perceived relatives to its surrounding.
• The repetition of the form is used to increase the focus on the effect of the colors
.

"Perception of color is always deception [.]. We don't see colors for what they really are. They change through our peception in so far as two different colors can look the same while two similar colors can look differently, or opaque ones appear transparent and vice versa, however, certain forms become unmistakable. This "play" of colors - the shift of identity - is subjetc of my studies." (quoted from: Eugen Gomringer, Josef Albers, Starnberg 1968, pp. 103f.).

In good condition. Yellow field with isolated unobtrusively rubbed spots.
