Selbstporträt an der Staffelei. 1928.
Oil on cardboard with canvas structure, doubled.
Upper right monogrammed and dated. 95.8 x 73.5 cm (37.7 x 28.9 in) , visible area.

This work is one of Meidner's important self-portraits, which play a key role in his graphic and pictorial creation throughout his entire artist life. At the same time it is one of the rare paintings from the 1920s during which Meidner put increased focus on painting and drawing.
We are grateful to Erik Riedel, Ludwig Meidner-Archive, Jüdisches Museum Frankfurt, for his kind support in cataloging this lot.
