Signed, dated and inscribed with the location “Lecco” lower right. Numbered and inscribed “A. Kappis, Stuttgart 46 am Comersee” verso on the stretcher, as well as with a gallery label. 30 x 46.5 cm (11.8 x 18.3 in).
• Rare Italian motif with characteristic free brushwork.
• Abert Kappis captured the picturesque town at Lake Como in a very atmospheric manner.
• He studied under Karl von Piloty at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1860 and was a professor of landscape painting at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart from 1880 to 1905.
