Signed, dated, titled and inscribed by Claire Wesselmann on the reverse, as well as with the work number "D 85117". 34.5 x 39.8 cm (13.5 x 15.6 in), size of sheet. [SM/CH].
• Wesselmann transforms a classic still life into a vibrant pop art eye-catcher with his characteristic graphic-linear style.
The same year, he created the "Still Life with Fuji Chrisanthemums (double Layer)" steel cut, which features our motif.
• Alongside Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg, Wesselmann is one of the most important protagonists of American Pop Art.
• Until February 24, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, is paying tribute to him with the comprehensive exhibition “Pop Forever. Tom Wesselmann & ..”, in which over 150 works by Wesselmann and around 70 works by another 35 artists from the Pop Art circle are on display.
The work is registered in the Wesselmann Studio Archive, New York.
