Jaggard S. 501. - Lowndes III, 2260f. - First edition of Johnson's Shakespeare. - "The first edition edited by the famous lexicographer, the first variorum edition, and the foundation of hundreds of subsequent issues." (Jaggard) - " ... it was acknowledged to be superior to any of its predecessors, and the preface commanded universal admiration." (Lowndes) - Slightly foxed in places (the portrait stronger) and browned, 1 corner bumped, 1 cover with trace of scraping. All in all fine and very decorative copy.
