The playful and rhythmic aspect of this composition calls reminiscence of works by Paul Klee. In his abstract works Wassily Kandinsky was particularly inspired by the influence of music, which can also be said about this composition. The atmospheric airiness it emanates may well originate in this inspiration. Subtle parallel lines loosen the strictly geometric figures up and add an own texture to the drawing. Everything is in abeyance. Even the precise lines find liberation in spirals. [KD]
