The charcoal drawing was made in the Dutch village Carelshaven as preliminary study for Liebermann's painting "Das Tischgebet" (Eberle 1886/1).
This work's authenticity has kindly been confirmed orally by Drs. Margreet Nouwen, Berlin. We are grateful for her expert advice.
PROVENANCE: Collection Werner Eberhard Müller, Leipzig (1935, verso with collection stamp and with hand-written inscriptions).
