Erste und einzige deutsche Ausgabe, selten. "The work is an important and valuable contribution to our knowledge of the Antilles and their inhabitants" (Sabin).

Vollständiges Exemplar, mit allen Kupfern und dem meist fehlenden zweiten Teil. - Die Tafeln zeigen die Pflanzen der neuen Welt: Ananas, Indigo, Ingwer, Kakao, Kokos, Palmen, Tabak (vgl. Arents 297 zur engl. Ausg. 1666), weiterhin Vögel, Muscheln, Krokodil und andere Tiere sowie einige Trachten.

EINBAND: Zeitgenössischer Pergamentband. 14 : 8 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit gestochenem Titel und 45 Kupfertafeln. - KOLLATION: 10 Bll., 430 S., 6 Bll.; 6 Bll., 31 S., 1 Bl., 514 S. - ZUSTAND: Stellenw. leicht fleckig, wenige Bll. mit alt ergänzten Randläsuren (Text betroffen), vereinz. mit kl. Wurmspur im Fußsteg, 3 Tafeln beschnitten, gest. Titel mit Randläsur und kl. Einriß, Titel im Fußsteg mit kl. Randläsur, Innengelenke gelockert, Rücken etw. fleckig. - PROVENIENZ: Titel recto mit eigh. Besitzvermerk des Bibliothekars und Philologen Johann Christoph Mylius (1710-1756), dat. Jena 1749. - Titel verso mit eigh. Besitzvermerk des Botanikers und Mediziners August Johann Georg Carl Batsch (1761-1802), dat. 1775. Batsch beriet Goethe in botanischen Fragen und ist Verfasser eines bedeutenden Werkes über Pilze. - Später in der Sammlung des hessischen Chemikers und Bibliophilen Waldemar Schwalbe (1882-1943) mit seinem Schattenriß-Exlibris, dat. 1937.
