Aus der Familie von Lady Diana

François Balthazar Solvyns
The costume of Indostan. London, E. Orme [1804].

38 : 26 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 60 kolorierten Kupfertafeln in Punktiermanier. Möglicherweise war es Papa Seymour, der aus sittlichen Erwägungen den leicht freizügigen Text zur Hermaphroditen-Tafel (".. they inherit, from the sport of nature in her most capricious humour, the capability of plural enjoyments ..") herausgeschnitten hatte.

LITERATUR: Abbey, Travel 429. - Tooley 461. - Lipperheide Ld 9. - Colas 2765.

First edition. With 60 hand-colored stipple-engraved plates. Contemp. richly gilt morocco with gilt edges. - Lacking the text to plate 39 (window-like cut out, skilfully replaced by copy). Partly minor staining, text leaves mostly with offset of the plates, flying endleaves with slight creases and marg. tear. Binding rubbed, joints and corner restored. With ownership inscription by Horace Beauchamp Seymour (1791-1851), dated Ramsgate 1828, and by his daughter Adelaide Horatia Elisabeth Seymour, married Spencer (1825-1877), the great-great-grandmother of Lady Diana: "Adelaide E. Seymour. Given her by her Papa", written on first white leaf and also on the frontispiece. R)
