The fishing villages at the Baltic were a welcome complement to this studies of villages in Thuringia. The communities' narrow and winding streets with their nested houses play to Feininger's liking for the odd. The man carrying a scythe in this sheet presumably alludes to the hidden fascination for these remote villages and their undiscovered secrets. Another work, a view of the village Neppermin from around the same time, was realized as a lithography.
