The Munich publisher Friedrich Bruckmann, who had already published an Odyssey series with Preller's father some years earlier, ordered, sort of as a counter piece, a cycle on the Iliad from Preller the Younger. The artist chose twelve scenes and made haunting drawings that are almost one meter tall. After the se models Bruckmann published the Iliad series in excellent phototypes.
