The otter, which was also eternalized in the somewhat larger fountain plastic (Gabler 150-a) by August Gaul in 1909, counts among the favorite motifs of Charlotte Hansen-Gaul, the artist's granddaughter. According to Josephine Gabler, no casts were made of our charming otter were made in the artist's lifetime. Only a few later casts, among which our work also counts, are known of. [KP].
