"Berthold Ruppel was one of Gutenberg's longest journeymen and was on his side in the great dispute between the inventor and Fust. Even if the earliest rubricating dates (1464 and 1468) in Basel prints may not be reliable, it can most certainly be said that Berthold Ruppel set up his printshop in Basel in the sixties (the latest presumably in 1468). (..) He did not make a great number of prints; not a single one carries a date indication, his activities as a printer presumably did not go beyond 1480" (translation of quote from Geldner I, 112). - Lacking last 9 ll. and the blank leaf at the end. - Slightly foxed in places. Binding scraped and scuffed, joints mended. Inside all in all clean and broad-margined copy on strong paper. From the library of Detlef Mauss.
