Gothic type, 36-37 lines.Hain/Cop. 4157. - GW 5797. - BSB B-1010. - Polain 943. - IDL 1088. - Ges. für Typenkunde 1389. - Goedeke I, 420, 1. - Not in Goff and in the BMC . - First edition. - Extremely rare first work by the humanist Hermannus Buschius (1468-1534), a friend of Erasmus and co-author of the Epistolæ Obscurorum Virorum (Letters of Obscure Men).- Buschius, who was from an old noble family, studied in Münster, Deventer, Heidelberg, Rome and Bologna. As a humanist itinerant teacher, he gave private lectures in many Northern German cities, he taught eloquence and poetry in Wittenberg and Leipzig, since "1507 he was in Cologne. In the dispute between Pfefferkorn and Reuchlin, he eventually became one of the strongest supporters of Reuchlin. His contribution to the Epistolae obscurorum virorum is virtually certain .. When fights about the reformation broke out, Buschius was on Luther's side" (Translation of quote from NDB). - His most acknowledged work is the writing Vallum humanitatis from 1518, a passionate argumentation for humanism. - Slightly stained in places of margins, with creasemarks in places of corners, last 2 ll. with small mended corner defect. Fine and broad-margined copy from the library of the renowned book lover Johann Georgius Kloss (1787-1854; cf. Bogeng I, 340ff.).Rare first edition of the juvenile poetry of the humanist Hermannus Buschius, friend of Erasmus and co-author of the Epistolae Virorum obscurorum. No copy in Goff and BM STC. 19th cent. marbled boards. - Partly minor staining to margins, few edges with crease mark, last 2 leaves with small mended defective corners. Well preserved and widemargined copy from the famous library of Georgius Kloss.
