VD 16, P 4481. - BM STC, German Books S. 714. - Adams P 2020. - Sabin 64524. - Caillet 8903. - Thorndike VI, 454. - First edition . - Main work of the humanist and peculiar universal scholar Guillaume Postel (1510-1581), a "strange visionariness " by "the first important Central European Arabist" (transl. of quote from 'Welt der Araber', ex. cat. HAB Wolfenbüttel, p. 65). The work is a sort of missionary handbook, by means of which Postel wanted to introduce Christianity as a global religion. - At the same time an early americanum : "A passage relating to America begins on p. 350" (Sabin). - Slightly evenly browned in places, with isolated small partly rebacked wormtracks, isolated contemp. marginalia. Boards slightly bowed. All in all clean and broad-margined copy.
