Cox I, 351. - Henze II, 357. - Lada-Mocarski 5. - Nitsche/Stender 111. - First edition of part I and II of the famous travelogue of the so-called second Kamchatka expedition, lead by Bering; this is Gmelin's description of his journey up until his stay in the region of the Tunguska in January 1738. He took part in the expedition mainly in his function as a scientist with the focus on botany, however, he came up with extensive ethnologic findings as well. - The folding map shows the Russian Empire to east of the Ural and the western Siberian lowlands. - Here and there slightly foxed, the folding map variably creased and with guard holes, title of part I stamped. Binding scraped, 1 outer joint with traces of worming.
