The works of Fred Thieler are formed by dynamics, rhythm and movement. In the late 1950's, the artist tries to reach a new dynamisation of his compositions with technical and structural methods. With the help of the spatula-technique, crystalline structures and shapes are produced, which build a whole as such. Thieler, who regards painting as a "process, which is characterised by dynamic doing"(Fred Thieler in a letter to Dr. W. Rothe, in: Firmenich Merkert 1995, p.68), explains: "Every aid is all right with me in painting. Painting is a field of experiments."(Fred Thieler in: Thayfun Belgin, Kunst des Informel, Cologne 1997, p. 172).
