•Nolde's exotic color lithographs from the year 1913 are among his most sought-after works within his print art œuvre.
• Just as it is the case with the "Tänzerin" (Dancer, 1913) and the color lithograph "Junges Paar" (Young Couple, 1913), Nolde also rendered an exotic and erotic female type in "Russin" (Russian Woman, 1913).
• Rare. To date only three copies of this large-size color lithograph have been offered on the international auction market (source: artprice.com).
• A copy of the "Russin" used to be part of the important expressionist collection of Carl Hagemann, which today is part of the collection of the Städel Museum, Frankfurt a. M.
• Nolde was fascinated - just as the other "Brücke" artists - by the art and culture of primitive people and took part in a South Seas expedition in 1913/14.
• The expedition started in Berlin and reached Moscow on October 5, 1913, where Nolde might have met the model for the present color lithograph.
• With her straight black hair, almond-shaped eyes and the red lips, Nolde's "Russin" shows parallels to the mysterious lady depicted in the painting "Nadja" (1919)
.
