• Valtat is an important representative of French modernism who was in close contact with the art of the Impressionists, the Nabis, Paul Gauguin and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
• Around 1900 he was represented by the important gallery owner Ambroise Vollard and the Durand-Ruel gallery
• Valtat's model is often his wife Suzanne, with her blonde hair pinned up in a fashionable manner
• Wonderful garden scene in a light, flowery execution, in Valtat's individual, characteristic dynamic style
