"Next to the self-portrait, the female nude surely is the dominant theme and in Schiele's art it is inevitably identified with an erotic nude. He ennobled erotic art and liberated it from the dark corner. [But] to Egon Schiele it is not only about eroticism in his nudes, on contrary. [.] There is a spiritual dimension to the nude, which I regard far more importsant than the erotic dimension. It plays a role in Gustav Klimt's art [.], but for Egon Schiele its just a minor thing."
Klaus Albrecht Schröder, director of the Albertina in Vienna, 2017.
