A painting with the same title and made around the same time, is considered the last great accomplishment of the folk art period, in which Gabriele Münter, all in line with the spirit of the "Blaue Reiter" created several gaudy still lives with Madonna figures and flower arrangements. This gouache was executed right before the oil painting and shows the same harmonious composition and the recurring colors. Münter altered just a few details for the painting, she added, for insance a tall sphere-shaped crown to the third Madonna. [CH].
