Nay received a scholarship that was paid for by Edvard Munch with the help of the Lubeck musem director Carl Georg Heise, which enabled him to work in Norway in 1937. He also visited the Lofoten where he made a series of pictures of the island and the local fishermen, which marked a first highlight in his creation. His four Lofoten landscapes, which were Nay's first hand-made multicolor prints, are his most sought-after graphic documents today. Additionally, this sheet is the only one with not just three but four wooden blocks in rose, olive, blue and black - a combination that makes for an unusual expressive composition.
