This work was made at a time in Zang's artistic career that was characterized by the artist's exploration of the boundaries of his art. Through the usage of a thick white casting compound with bone glue Zangs created a work in which the white paint is both coating as well as the pictorial material. It covers the ground in broad splashes of paint, thin streaks and splatters, so that a collage-like structure comes into existence. The work is characterized by the thrilling interplay of positive and negative forms and the emblematic play of light and shade. With his "Verweißungen" Zang anticipated many tendencies in experimental art which set in during the second half of the 1950s.
