In his surrealist pictures and sculptures Dalí renders dream visions in figurative illustrations. In doing so he suspends borders between fantasy and reality. Based on Freud's teachings about the the unconscious, the artist works up dreams in which the female body plays an important role. In this bronze "Space Venus", modelled on an ancient female marble torso, the artist unites 4 key elements of his creation: The melting clock, the egg, ants and the fragmentation of the body, making this work a good example of Dalí's intention to depict visions and associations born from the unconscious.
