At first sight the observer sees an abstract landscape in black and yellow that gains sharpness towards the horizon. The fact that the observer struggles to identify the motif is characteristic of Neo Rauch's art: the foreground is close and blurred, like a train passing by at a close distance which the eye can't seize, while the remote fields and clouds are clearly recognizeable. In this landscape Neo Rauch plays with spatial structures and challenges human perception.
