"Kleiner Frühling" is an exciting example of Otto Piene's experimental fire pictures which have their origin in the early 1960s. The artist arranged the work in a powerful and energetic composition. The blazing red in the background and the lucent green are complementary and merge through the impact of the fire. This way Piene combines visual aspects and message: the color red stands for the energetic power of spring, while the color green symbolizes growth and becoming. Structures and nuances that coincidentally come into being are Otto Piene's characteristic means of expression, which he developed in the course of his creation reaching ever higher levels of expression.
