The present piece is characteristic for the artist's work. From 1968 he starts to develop his subject“Verräumlichung und Verkörperlichung der Farbe” (spatialization and embodiment of color) in endless variations, using mediums such as his famous “Farb-Kissen” (color cushions). Through the tincture and painting of the padded canvas in several layers of liquid acryl, Graubner creates a fluctuating, breathing densification. “You can follow a gradual development of my artistic work. The color unfolds to a chromatic organism; I observe how it develops a life of its own, I respect its autonomy. This way I was able to condense the two-dimensional spread into the body and the body could dissolve as fog into a corporeal densification within space. The fog space as total expression of my painting, appeals to every sense. It concentrates receptiveness in the most intensive way.” (translated quote from Graubner, in: Künstler. Kritisches Lexikon der Gegenwartskunst, edition 16, Munich 1991, p. 15).
