The large-size work "Verde“ from Agostino Bonalumis' mature period of creation counts among the most representative objects in the artist's oeuvre. Color, form, line, light and shade define everything we see, but Agostino Bonalumi's works transfer what we take for granted into somethin unusual.
His minimalist "Estroflessioni“ probe the limits of a two-diemsnional panel painting and creates an image body with spatial depth. Structures arise through the wooden and metal rods behind the canvas, which add rhythm to the monochrome image surface. Depending on the observer's positions and the lighting, different impressions of light and shade are evoked. Horizontal-diagonal structures dominate in "Verde“, alternating between clear contours and haziness. Additionaly, Bonalumi breaks the sequence through vertical-diagonal streaks and slightly shifts his construction to the right of the central axle. The shift's static is interrupted by plastic overlays, the surface gains in dynamics, adding more tension to the complex composition. The color's physical function influences the observer through its immediate emotional effect. This way Bonalumi creates works, that appeal to the observer in a challenging manner.
