Jacques Villon's mastery in aquatint etching becomes particularly obvious in this graphic interpretation. Villon worked for many of his artist colleagues, helping them to more popularity through spreading his graphic sheets. Next to Picasso's famous subject, which originates from a series of illustrations of circus artists, it is the technical poise with which Villon gets out the subject's silver lining, that make it an unusual graphic document.
