Even though Christo hates to be called a "wrapping artist", it were his early works for which he wrapped objects and monuments that earned him his position in the history of modern art history. Even though he began to abandon the concept of wrapping as of the mid 1970s and extended his artistic scope onto other fields of optical production, the alteration of our reality by means of foil and color cloth remained at the center of most of his projects, such as the installation "The Gates" in New York Central Park (2005). This work with the wrapped McCall magazine, up until its end in the early 2000s it was one of the oldest leading American women's magazines, marks the beginning of this unique artistic oeuvre and already bears the nucleus of Christo's artistic intention in a pointed manner.
