Fritz Winter knots the image area through a partly wiped grid of broad black lines, creating an intensely agitated structure that is forced open by small and lucent color fields. The artist nests the color fields with one another and lets an impression of spatial depth come into being. This force field of both contrary as well as complementary forms is affected by a strong coloring that would become characteristic of his later body of works.
