Steven Parrino, innovative representative of post-conceptual painting, was born in New York in 1958. he studied at Farmingdale State College and atParsons The New School for Design, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 1982.

Steven Parrino began to work on his most famous work complex while he was still attending university: He created pictures of monochrome color fields, mostly with black, or, as it is the case with the work in our auction, silver gloss paint. He used the colors of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Parrino was part of the New York biker scene. But that's not all: Steven Parrino takes the painted canvasses out of the stretcher, jerks, turns and crunches them, cuts them apart and even gums them up. In the continuation of Frank Stella's "shaped canvases" he creates works between object art, performance and painting that Steven Parrino calls "misshaped paintings". He also employs this style and mode in metal sculptures. Additionally, Steven Parrino was active in the genre Environment, his drawings and collages show his roots in pop- and subculture. He was a key figure of the New York scene in the1980s and 1990s, inspiring artists such as Cady Noland or Banks Violette.
