Charcoal drawing with pencil.

This drawing as well as the belonging sheet "Kind mit Hündchen im Arm", also offered in this auction (see lot 189) originate from the days when Emil Nolde was still active under his birth name Emil Hansen. On both this and the corresponding sheet Nolde copied a painting by Bruno Piglhein of the same name that was formerly in Schleißheim, as a favor for a clockmaker from St. Gallen, with whom he was befriended. [KP].

Accompanied by an expertise issued by Dr. Martin Urban, Foundation Seebüll Ada and Emil Nolde, dated 25 March 1979 (in copy).
