Under the influence of the painter Jean Seignemartin, whom Lebourg met in Algiers, his palette became lighter in the 1870s. He became increasingly occupied with the different lighting conditions over the course of a day, just like Monet and the other Impressionists. The drawing itself looses in importance, up to a point at which Lebourg worked his motifs out of the paint he placed by small strokes of the brush. Wonderful and fresh, vivid and full of light, that can also be said about this view of Paris on the banks of the Seine, a view quite characteristic of Lebourg‘s work in the 1880s. [CB].
