Le Gamin de Paris aux Tuileries. 1848.
Lithograph.
Delteil 1743 I (of I). Numbered in stone. Typographically titled and inscribed outside of image. Extremely rare copy. On wove paper. 25,4 x 22,5 cm (10 x 8,8 in). Sheet: 34,3 x 26,6 cm (13,5 x 10,5 in).
Published in magazine "Le Charivari", 4 March, 1848.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Baden-Württemberg (with collector stamp on verso, not in Lugt).

After the February Revolution and like a week after the abdication of king Louis-Philippe, this sheet by Daumier was published in the satirical magazine "Le Charivari". It shows the mob storming the throne room in the Tuileries Palace, mocking the monarchy. A boy from the street sits on the throne and shouts "Oh my god! .. how deep can you sink". [CB].
