While Max Ackermann still painted works with a rather meditative atmosphere in 1965, he returned to more geometric and clearly structured compositions as of 1966. Because, said the artist: "Colors originate from the spectrum. They are of divine origin, just as circle, square and triangle." (Max Ackermann, quoted after Maria Velte, Max Ackermann - Leben und Werk, in: ex. cat. Max Ackermann. Paintings 1908-1967, p. XXV). Our work is a particularly expressive example of the compositional features ion those days. Merry motion and calm order follow a harmonized rhythm. Accordingly, most small geometric figures blend ion with the large round of two circles, while a few rectangles and semicircles seem to act independently in the margin. Additionally, the blue forms in the lower half make for a fresh accentuation, which, in return, keeps the horizontal balance. It particularly is the combination of red and blue that has a potential the artist also examined in other works. [KP].
