Monogrammed, dated and inscribed lower left. 47 x 65 cm (18,5 x 25,5 in).
With inscriptions, among others "Milzeburg" and "Anh. KV 5778" (presumably 'Anhaltischer Kunstverein') on verso by a hand other than that of the artist. Old adhesive label "Leipziger Kunstverein 2429".

PROVENANCE: The artist's property, thence by descent to the present owner.

Since his first visit in 1858 Preller travelled to the Rhön region on and off over the centuries. there he found inspiration for many his landscape and nature studies. The town Kleinsassen in the southern area of the Rhön, at the foor of the mountain Milseburg (also Milzeburg), was his preferred place to stay. [CB].
