PROVENANCE: Private collection Baden-Württemberg, acquired from artist in 1969.

It was for the repeated cooperation with architects on fountain projects and the like that raised Koenig's conscience for questions of tectonics and construction. He became occupied with the interplay of laden and supporting forms. A heavy weight in form of the classic motif of the caryatide found its realization in an artistically conceited carrier figure. Koenig transfers these into a canon of geometric forms of balks, cubes and carriers connected by biomorph elements. Koenig's caryatide leave the ground of their direct architectural function and replace the traditional concept of an antropomorphically formed carrier with an abstract interpretation of the tectonic principle.
