Before Christian Rohlfs was in Hagen where he grew to become one of Germany's most important representatives of Expressionism, his contemporaries had already celebrated him in Weimar as one of the leading German plein-air painters. Our charming pastel is a document from just period of creation, a period that was coined by Rohlfs' masterly occupation with both the School of Barbizon and French Impressionism. [KH].
