The exuberant creativity of the allround talent Jonathan Meese finds expression in paintings, sculptures, installations, performances and stage designs. Meese follows an inner urge without making an advance claim to create art. "Art is self-generating" he states in a talk with Patrick Wildermann: "When I say 'I am not producing art', that only means I have no recipe or instructions that I follow. I have no clue, no justification of how to act, I don't know what it takes that leads to art [..] - that is a mysterious process for which we have no words. I think that art is self-generating and hence decides for itself what it is." (quote after: Pamela C. Scorzin, Messianismus, in: Kritisches Lexikon der Gegenwartskunst, edition 73, 2006, issue 5, p. 3.). [KH].
