After an apprenticeship as a decoration painter Karl Otto Hy studied at the Wiesbaden School of Applied Arts as of 1924, he continued his education at the School of Applied Arts in Mainz. Works by Karl Otto Hy have been shown in numerous exhibitions, for instance, they were presented in the show "Wiesbadener Künstler aus 3 Generationen" alongside works by Alois Erbach, Conrad Felixmüller and Alexej von Jawlensky in 1980. Hy's preferred motifs are landscapes, still lives and most of all portraits, which, as it is the case with our work, are close to the art of New Objectivity with their cool view on reality. [JS].
