PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany.

EXHIBITION: Galleria Pieroni, Rome, 1980.

Many filigree birds and insects populate Meret Oppenheim's works. The observer can find dragonflies and butterflies. Our charming brooch goes back to an oil chalk drawing ("Ein Schmetterling", Bürgi Y 299) from 1975, which was executed in silkscreen for the title of the graphic portfolio "Parapapillonneries" and for the poster of the exhibition of the same name at Michel Cassé, Paris, in June the following year. The filigree jewelry object takes us to the artist's fantastic-surreal world, in which we encounter known figures that have been changed to dream-like creatures. [KP].
