The portrait, which could perhaps even show the artist himself, is a good document of the development of Hans Michaelson's style between around 1908 and 1914: Starting out from the Impressionism of his teache Friedrich Kallmorgen, Michaelson takes a stint to Pointillism and eventually an attains an Expressionism with the characteristic strong coloring.
