Doune Castle is located in Perthshire, northwest of Edinburgh on the river Teith. It was used by the Scottish royals in the 15th and 16th century as country seat and hunting castle, later as a prison. In the novel "Waverley" by the Scottish national poet Walter Scott the castle served as a refuge for the protagonist. The group of comedians Monty Python chose Doune Castle for their film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". [CB].
