Karl Schmidt-Rottluff still shows the power of his artistic expression also in his later works, which can be seen by the energetic strokes of the brush of the flowers on this picture. Comparable with the late works by Christian Rohlfs, Schmidt-Rottluff' late works also show approaches to a new orientation - especially as far as the technical accomplishments of his works are concerned. Indian ink drawings become a primary compositionary element, with the colors in a subordinate position. But as far as the expressive power of forms is concerned, Schmidt-Rottluff stays true to their optical stringency also in his later years. [KD].
