Mark Fairnington's insect portraits are made after preparations in natural scientific museums, the Natural History Museum in London is his central source of material. His hyper-realistic pictures are based of high-resolution microscope images of various insects, which he brings onto the canvas in oil in their smallest detail. The objects seem to hover in a spherical-lucent and milky space. For the first time a work from the series "Specimen" is offered on the international auction market. [SM].
