Raumplastik. Um 1960.
Sculpture. Stainless steel. On marble base.
59 : 50 cm (23,2 : 19,6 in)Sculpture: 59 x 50 x 50 cm (23,2 x 19,6 x 19,6 in). Base: 10 x 12,5 x 10 cm (3,9 x 4,8 x 3,9 in) When, in the late 1940s, Kricke produced his first spatial sculptures of metal rods welded together in straight, bunched or knotted form to reach dynamically out in space, he was linking up with the Constructivist tradition of Naum Babo or Antoine Pevsner. Kricke had his first solo show in 1953, at Galerie Ophir in Munich. The present work also impressively demonstrates what is only seemingly an unstable tracery of metal conveying the impression it is hovering. The extreme height of the montage makes it almost seem to overcome gravity. [HL]
EXPERTISE: The work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné prepared by Sabine Kricke-Güse
