Felsenlandschaft I. 1914.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated "Juli 1914" lower right. Once more signed, titled and inscribed on the reverse. 80 : 60 cm (31,4 : 23,6 in). Hans Brasch studied both at the Applied Arts School and the Karlsruhe Fine Art Academy with Ludwig Schmid-Reutte and Friedrich Fehr. From 1904 to 1908 he was in Hans Thoma’s master class before living in Paris and Geneva, where he stayed with Ferdinand Hodler. From 1913 Hans Brasch lived in Frankfurt am Main and served in the military during the First World War. His œuvre consists mainly of portraits but he also painted flower pictures as well as mountain and forest landscapes in unusually narrowly focused close-up. From 1920 Brasch worked chiefly in watercolours. [NB]

PROVENIENZ: Private ownership Dresden.

Good overall impression. With a few horizontal crease marks, more visible on the upper margin, there and in some parts of the sky with small retouchings. Isolated tiny colour flakings.
