As part of the series "Details of Renaissance Paintings" Andy Warhol examines the painting "Annunciation " (Uffizi, Florence) by Leonardo da Vinci in this color silkscreen by depicting the work‘s central section. Only the hands of both protagonists in the scene are visible: the hand of the Angel of Annunciation in left pointing at Mary and Mary‘s hand resting on a book in right. The landscape in between resembles the Renaissance model, however, Warhol accentuates the originally indistinct background and puts it into the foreground. This close-up creates an entirely new quality.
